Employment description

A carpenter manufactures, assembles, and installs various types and constructions of furniture, including solid wood and wood panel furniture, as well as framed and upholstered furniture. They also perform furniture repair and restoration. Furniture carpenters independently plan and organize their tasks. Depending on the company’s workflow, they may collaborate with clients to accept orders, provide consultations, create sketches, prepare cost estimates, and deliver finished work. The role is primarily based in carpentry workshops, woodworking, and furniture manufacturing companies.

Specific skills in the profession
  • Interpret wood product and furniture construction drawings
  • Draft product sketches (technical drawing skills)
  • Manufacture furniture from solid wood, wood panels, and their decorative elements
  • Produce upholstered furniture and upholstered furniture components
  • Repair and restore furniture and other wooden products
  • Select assembly techniques and carry out furniture assembly, including on-site
  • Perform gluing and veneering tasks using various adhesives and equipment
  • Prepare raw materials for work and use them efficiently
  • Work with wood using tools and electric hand tools
  • Set up tools, machines, and equipment while ensuring compliance with safety standards
  • Perform mechanical wood processing tasks using machinery
  • Create auxiliary devices and templates of various designs
  • Apply chemical protection to wood using brushes, rollers, or spraying methods
  • Perform surface staining, etching, and finishing using diverse materials and techniques
  • Install hinges, locks, and other furniture hardware
  • Complete required documentation during work processes
  • Organize the workspace and perform tasks in line with occupational, electrical, and fire safety regulations
